Whales in Iceland

Whale watching in Iceland is a unique adventure at sea. You have the oppertunity to watch the wonders of nature up close and personal when you book a holiday to see these beautiful Icelandic whales in stunning natural surroundings. Whale watching tours are available from Reykjavik and Husavik. Traveling in Iceland can be distracting but if you are in the north of Icleand you may want to plan a stop in Husavik about 1 hour from the town of Akureyri. Husavik is an authentic fishing town with only 2,300 residents who make a living working in harmony with nature and the ocean. Husavik is known as the whale watching capital of Iceland and the harbor is crowded with fishing boats, close to the colorful houses of the town. It is simple to book a tour through this site in either place.

It should be noted that Iceland is one of only a few countries with an active whaling industry, this is done in close co-operation with and is regulated by, the Icelandic government and marine researh institutions. However, if you choose to assert an anti-whaling position expect some Icelanders to have strong pro-whaling opinions and be well prepared to argue the issue. It is better not to expect to win the argument.
